If there is anything that beats Bollywood’s obsession with the song-and-dance routine, it’s the portrayal of the melodramatic mother, who subtly controls the mind of the protagonist with her ultimate superpower: emotional blackmail. These onscreen moms are completely equipped to save their offspring from troublesome situations, are armed with an overly-sharpened intuition and can detect the presence of their children within a area of 50sqft (case in point: Jaya Bacchan in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham). Glycerine is their best friend, and not having an army of grandchildren their worst fear.
On Mother’s Day, we’ve put together images of the craziest (but completely loveable) moms of Bollywood, because the movies we’ve grown up watching would be half as entertaining without their performances.
