Let’s face it—Manish Malhotra needs no introduction. A coveted must-have for a smattering of brides and grooms, the designer’s career spanning 25 years has seen him juxtapose the world of fashion and films in a decidedly inimitable manner.
Malhotra started out as a model but turned to costume designing and styling in the ’90s, with Urmila Matondkar’s look in Rangeela serving as his turning point. From then, he’s launched his store: Reverie – Manish Malhotra in 1998 as well as his present-day eponymous label in 2005. With 35 awards, over a 1,000 movies and a Vogue cover under his belt, Malhotra’s career is nothing short of tour de force.
He has mastered the art of effortlessly blending Indian traditions and crafts with a modern sensibility that appeals to the global Indian couple. Case in point: his recent collections not only highlight au courant silhouettes like cape lehengas and exquisite gowns but also heritage weaves such as Benarasi. Intricate craftsmanship with a generous dose of high-octane glamour sums up his aesthetic.
Malhotra’s roster of prominent brides includes a bevy of Bollywood names—from Karisma Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan to Mira Rajput and Preity Zinta. After all, everything the designer undertakes is sprinkled with ample star power.
