#BeautyBuzz: Alia Bhatt’s selfie proves that nothing beats good genes

One of the sweetest selfies from last week was Alia Bhatt’s with her mother and sister, where the trio looks happily radiant, proving that the healthy flush definitely runs in the family.
Giving you serious inspiration to up your make-up game is Gigi Hadid, in her luminous, highlighted-to-perfection face that she juxtaposes against an intense plum lip. Or you could go for Kim Kardashian’s nude make-up look, to which she adds a touch of sultry with oodles of mascara and smudgy kohl.
And if you haven’t been able to get yourself to hit the gym lately, Lisa Haydon’s bikini bod and Kriti Sanon’s workout moves will inspire to get the sweat going.

Why Bollywood can’t get enough of Manish Malhotra

Let’s face it—Manish Malhotra needs no introduction. A coveted must-have for a smattering of brides and grooms, the designer’s career spanning 25 years has seen him juxtapose the world of fashion and films in a decidedly inimitable manner.
Malhotra started out as a model but turned to costume designing and styling in the ’90s, with Urmila Matondkar’s look in Rangeela serving as his turning point. From then, he’s launched his store: Reverie – Manish Malhotra in 1998 as well as his present-day eponymous label in 2005. With 35 awards, over a 1,000 movies and a Vogue cover under his belt, Malhotra’s career is nothing short of tour de force.
He has mastered the art of effortlessly blending Indian traditions and crafts with a modern sensibility that appeals to the global Indian couple. Case in point: his recent collections not only highlight au courant silhouettes like cape lehengas and exquisite gowns but also heritage weaves such as Benarasi. Intricate craftsmanship with a generous dose of high-octane glamour sums up his aesthetic.
Malhotra’s roster of prominent brides includes a bevy of Bollywood names—from Karisma Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan to Mira Rajput and Preity Zinta. After all, everything the designer undertakes is sprinkled with ample star power.

These couples that had us believing in love only to break our hearts

If there’s one thing you can count on the entertainment industry for, it’s that nothing lasts forever. Be it the number one hit on the radio, buzz about a controversial new movie, fierce celeb wars—all of them inevitably fizzle out—as do the relationships that have the world rooting for them.
It’s safe to say that 2016 started on a unsavoury note for quite a few celebrity couples. While Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif’s split had Bollywood fans everywhere sighing in sadness, Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris’s breakup was a bomb on the hearts of music lovers all over the globe. Then there are the rumours of Malaika-Arbaaz and Gigi-Zayn calling it quits. But come what may, one thing’s for sure: single or committed, these stars never fail to impress with their work. After all, what doesn’t kill you makes you (and your art) stronger!
Here’s a look at some of the couples that parted ways in 2016.

This is how Katrina Kaif is making her digital debut

Elusive, private and fiercely opinionated when she chooses to be, Katrina Kaif might be one of the lesser seen and even lesser heard celebrities. As our June cover girl who is testing the waters of social media, she will be talking about her go-to red carpet designers, beauty essentials, her shows she loves to watch and her favourite places to shop at. To find out more about our guest digital editor for June, watch this space.

Katrina Kaif on Bollywood: “Sometimes we mix the personal and the professional too closely”

In the age of the Insta-star, when tracking a celebrity hardly requires effort, Kaif’s allure lies in the fact that you have to prick your ears to hear what she has to say. She doesn’t open up very often, so when she does you listen. Will she ever volunteer herself to public commentary? “People share things all the time…it doesn’t come naturally to me,” she says resolutely.
Even as Kaif is in the throes of finally getting herself the tiny blue tick of online stardom, she is aware that it is a long-term commitment that would warrant regular updates. She is already overwhelmed by the thought of it. “I fear I might get into a war of words, constantly clarifying myself. I guess there is a positive and negative side to it,” she says, adding, “But it is something I say I have been thinking of doing for a while [laughs].”
While her relationship with her boyfriend and the ensuing split garnered multiple page-view-generating stories, Kaif hasn’t said a word about it. She does offer an explanation for her silence: “All Cancerians are guarded to a certain extent. That’s just the way it is,” she says. “It’s also just about being a girl,” she shrugs.
Kaif says she isn’t reserved on her own accord but she plays it safe when it involves “another person who is not in your control.” “Which means, you are going to be speaking for yourself and for that other person, constantly making changes and updates, you know?” she says.
TAG APPROVALIn the case of Kaif, silence seems to have worsened the speculation about her relationships. But she can’t really bother as she soldiers through another year of hectic filming. Her instinct is better suited to a cast member of Survivor than the seductive girl in a red gown urging you to buy a mango drink. In fact, Kaif seems neither the bubbly girl-next-door nor the sex siren—the two roles she seems to have played the most in her 13-year-long film career. Her calm, collected responses are proof of how quick we are to associate fabricated identities with an actor, and how popular culture buries individuality for the sake of mass appeal.
Over the years, Kaif has wisened up to the fact that business is business and that Bollywood can prove to be shaky turf when it comes to making real friends. “I think I no longer make friends in a way that I am too attached or dependent on people. This is the film industry, this is a place of work and sometimes we mix the personal and the professional too closely,” she shares.
