It takes a superhuman level of energy (and a complete disregard for jet lag, when you think of it), to live a life like Priyanka Chopra’s. From Miss World to Bollywood celebrity, singer, international TV star and now producer too, Chopra is clearly on a roll, surprising the world with a new achievement every time you think she can’t grow any stronger.
After becoming the first South Asian actor to win a People’s Choice Award, the star has now bagged a Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian honour, as well. Others who have received the Padma awards this year include Ajay Devgn (Shri); Sania Mirza, Saina Nehwal and Anupam Kher (Bhushan); and Rajinikanth (Vibhushan).
“I am happy… excited that this honour came my way,” Chopra told the Indian Express. “It has been a good year for me. The start has been great. I am grateful to people who have acknowledged my work. Being the daughter of an army officer, this honour makes it more special. I think with award comes encouragement to do better and good work (sic). There is responsibility to perform better. I am happy (that) I am acknowledged for the work that I have done.”
Chopra was as gracious as ever, congratulating fellow winners with this heartfelt Tweet.
